The Great Connect

People, Places, Ideas, and Minds–Connecting

ps. I love you

Alright- I’m going to be a girl here, so to all my male readers feel free to cringe. I LOVED this film. We all know the plot but I’ll give you my favourite parts of it.

1) Okay, Gerard Butler. I have a thing for him and I’m not ashamed to admit it! I post exhibit A below in my defense. I mean come on, I could do my laundry on his abs. And Exhibit B, look at that face. rar.

EXHIBIT A

EXHIBIT B

2) What a cute story and I did cry at parts, though I laughed too. For the record my funeral will be something like that one.

3) Ireland. Jesus Galway was so beautifully filmed and I’m sure EnnisKerry is going to get droves of tourists in coming months. To those who are going, for god’s sakes please don’t mess the place up!

4) Love. Not as a woman, but as a human, I think there’s nothing more beautiful in this world than a true deep love that survives but grows against all odds.

All in all I loved this film. It provides a beautiful alternative to blood and gore in films these days and reminds us all to stop and see the beautiful. Congrats Cecilia Ahern for writing the book and giving us this love story, you did magnificently.

Derry’s Last Independant Bookshop Closes

After nearly thirty years in business Derry’s last independent bookshop is set to close its doors in March. Bookworm, located on Bishop Street, has suffered losses as competition with large chains increased over the past four years. The shop’s owner, Mr. Peter McKenzie states “I have borrowed money on the rising price of the property, but I just couldn’t go on. We have lost around £200,000 in the past four years, it’s just not sustainable anymore.” While this does mark the end of an era, it is by no means the end of the story. Mr. McKenzie will continue the store’s online branch.

Please, don’t ruin Bond

Okay- So James Bond will be getting a new sidekick. Twenty-eight year old Ukrainian actress Olga Kurylenko is playing the role of a sexy woman who “challenges Bond and helps him come to terms with the emotional consequences of Vesper’s betrayal”. We can all imagine, I’m sure, in what ways she will challenge Bond of course. The film is set to release November 7th. All I ask of the director is please, for the love of God, don’t ruin James Bond.

Does Rupert Murdoch Own You?

Apparently Rupert Murdoch controlled News Corp. has purchased 15 percent of the popular German pay-TV broadcast company Première. This is Murdoch’s first foray into German broadcasting territory since in recent years and points to the corporation’s ever expanding grasp on media outlets around the globe. Perhaps blogs like this one may one day be the only source of independent media?
